**NGOs to Lose Public Decision-Making Role**
The Georgian Parliament is set to consider a new law package that will limit the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in public decision-making. This change affects 14 different laws and is supported by both the ruling parties, Georgian Dream and People’s Power.
**Discussion Scheduled for Tomorrow**
The Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules will discuss this issue tomorrow. Currently, several laws require NGOs to be involved in the public decision-making process. The new package of amendments plans to change that.
**Ruling Team Explains their Decision**
According to the ruling majority, the mandatory participation of NGOs is no longer necessary. They claim that recent events, including those surrounding USAID, have shown that NGO involvement can hinder effective state governance. Many NGOs receive funding from abroad and are seen as serving external interests rather than local community needs.
**Effect on NGOs**
The proposed changes mean that NGOs will no longer be required to participate in public decision-making processes. The ruling team believes this is necessary due to the influence of foreign funding on NGO actions. A full discussion of these plans will take place within the Parliamentary Committee tomorrow.
