**Sheffield Holds Vigil to Mark Ukraine’s 3rd Anniversary of Invasion**

A vigil was held in Sheffield city centre to remember the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The event was organized by the Sheffield branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) and the city council.

The vigil featured a performance by the AUGB’s children’s choir and guest speakers at the Sheffield Winter Garden. Attendees included council leader Tom Hunt and Lord Mayor of Sheffield Cllr Jayne Dunn.

**Support for Ukraine Remains Strong**

Tanya Klymenko, an organizer from the AUGB, said that despite the ongoing conflict, support for Ukrainians in Britain has not wavered. She praised the British people for their kindness and solidarity with the Ukrainian community.

Klymenko, who migrated to Sheffield before the war, emphasized that Ukraine needs lasting security guarantees, not just a temporary peace deal. She also supported the idea of Europe shifting away from dependence on American support.

**Refugee Shares Her Story**

Alla Bulavko, a refugee who moved to Sheffield three years ago with her son, shared her personal story at the vigil. Her husband and older son remained in Ukraine to enlist as soldiers. Bulavko worried about their safety and expressed hope that conversations between Russia and the US could signal the beginning of an end to the conflict.

**Leaders Show Support**

Council leader Tom Hunt said that Sheffield stands with Ukraine as it fights for its future. He emphasized that peace cannot be a one-sided deal, and any agreement must stop Putin from attacking again.

Lord Mayor Cllr Jayne Dunn praised the Ukrainian community’s kindness, solidarity, and hope. She welcomed Ukrainians to Sheffield as their home, saying their presence enriches the city’s community.
