**Growing Concerns**
There are growing concerns that Trump is trying to leave out Ukraine and Europe in favor of direct talks with Russia. The US and Russian officials have held two meetings without Ukrainian participation, one in Saudi Arabia on February 18 and another scheduled for February 25.
**US-Russia Talks**
The US has proposed a minerals deal to Ukraine, which would give them a stake in the country’s natural resources. However, Zelensky has criticized this proposal, saying it lacks security guarantees. He also noted that Ukraine’s constitution prohibits elections during martial law, which has been in effect since Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
**Trump’s Comments**
Trump has made some comments about Ukraine and Russia, including calling Ukrainian President Zelensky a “dictator without elections.” This echoes Russian propaganda narratives about his legitimacy. Trump has also called for Russia to be reinstated into the G7, saying it was a “mistake” to expel them after their illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014.
