**EU Diplomat to Visit US**
The EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, is going to the United States. She will meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio on February 25.
Kallas wants to talk about how to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. This comes after American and Russian leaders met in Saudi Arabia last week. But neither Ukraine nor the EU was invited to join these talks.
Kallas says that any agreement to help Ukraine or Europe will not work without their participation. She will discuss this with Rubio and other US officials.
**US President’s Words Criticized**
Some people are criticizing US President Donald Trump for saying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is a “dictator”. Kallas notes that Russia has not had fair elections in 25 years, unlike Ukraine.
Kallas also thinks the US government might be giving too much attention to Russian claims about Ukraine’s president. She says this suggests that the Russian narrative is being strongly represented in the US.
**Russian Claims About Zelensky**
Russia has been saying that Zelensky is not a legitimate leader because his first presidential term was meant to end on May 20, 2024. But Ukraine’s constitution says elections cannot happen during martial law, which began when Russia invaded Ukraine two years ago.
As a result, Zelensky’s term has been extended, which is allowed under Ukrainian law. This makes Trump’s claim about Zelensky being a “dictator” false, according to constitutional lawyers.
