**US Tones Down Criticism of Russia in UN Resolution**
The US has changed its stance on the Ukraine war. The country, along with Georgia, is now backing a watered-down resolution at the United Nations General Assembly.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the new draft stops short of blaming Russia for the conflict. Instead, it “implores” an end to the fighting and mourns the loss of life on both sides. This is a big change from previous versions that were more critical of Russia.
The US had been working with European countries on the original 21-paragraph resolution. However, they asked Ukraine to withdraw this draft on Friday. Ukraine refused, and its European partners are pushing ahead with the original version.
**Georgia’s Move Seen as Shift in Policy**
This change could be seen as a shift in policy by Georgia, which has traditionally supported Ukraine. The country’s government is trying to improve relations with Russia and also with the US, which had imposed sanctions on Georgia last year.
In the past, Georgia had backed UN resolutions condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, this year’s resolution is much softer on Russia.
