**Serbia’s Universities and Government Agree on Changes to Higher Education Law**
A deal has been reached between Serbian universities and the government regarding changes to the Law on Higher Education. The agreement was announced by Ana Brnabic, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia.
The main points of the deal are:
* A 20% increase in the budget for higher education, worth around 12 billion dinars.
* Tuition fees will be reduced by 50%. Students will pay the full tuition fee to their faculties, and then the government will reimburse 50% of the tuition fees.
**What This Means**
This agreement is a major step forward for student protesters in Serbia. They have been demanding increased funding for higher education since November last year. The deal includes provisions for additional funding to cover fixed costs and employee salaries at universities.
Brnabic expects the amendments to be submitted to Parliament on March 4. She believes that all universities agree with the terms of the deal.
