On February 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy for Ukraine. The meeting took place in Kyiv.
During their discussion, Zelensky said they talked about the situation on the battlefield and how to bring back all Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs). He also stated that Ukraine is ready for a strong agreement with the US regarding investments and security.
**No Joint Statements**
According to Zelensky’s spokesperson, Serhii Nykyforov, Washington requested that no joint statements be made after the meeting. This was done at the request of the US side.
**US Envoy’s Role Unclear**
It is unclear what role Kellogg will play in Trump’s peace efforts. Some experts suggest he has been sidelined due to his perceived pro-Ukraine stance and alleged Russian objections to his participation.
**Concerns in Kyiv and Europe**
Trump’s recent remarks have raised concerns in Kyiv and among European allies about Washington’s shifting stance on the war. Zelensky strongly rejected the idea of peace talks being conducted behind Ukraine’s back, as was done during negotiations in Saudi Arabia on February 18.
**US Envoy Meets with Ukrainian Officials**
During his visit to Ukraine, Kellogg met with top Ukrainian military and government officials. His primary mission was to listen to Kyiv’s concerns and relay his findings to the White House.
