**European Commission Urges Georgia to Stop Intimidation**
The European Commission is calling on the Georgian authorities to stop intimidating civil society, journalists, and political opposition. This was stated by Anitta Hipper, the Commission’s spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy.
According to Ms. Hipper, the Commission will reduce contact with the Georgian authorities and freeze financial aid as a response to Georgia’s democratic backslide. The statement was made in Brussels during an interview with a special correspondent from “InterpressNews”.
**Egg-Throwing Incident**
The announcement comes after an incident where eggs were thrown at President Salome Zurabishvili and opposition leader Giorgi Gakharia upon their return from the Munich Conference at Tbilisi International Airport.
Ms. Hipper emphasized that the European Commission has consistently responded to Georgia’s democratic decline by reducing political contacts, freezing financial assistance, and supporting civil society. The Commission is urging the Georgian authorities to stop all forms of intimidation against these groups.
