**Student Protests Mark a Turning Point**

A leading sociologist believes that the current student blockades and protests in Serbia mark the end of an era. Zoran Stojiljkovic, a retired professor from the Faculty of Political Sciences, says that “there is no going back” for the regime.

The recent rallies on Statehood Day showed two different Serbias: students gathered in Kragujevac, while politicians and their supporters met in Sremska Mitrovica. When asked if these two groups could meet soon, Stojiljkovic was pessimistic.

**Two Different Worlds**

He described the gap between the two as a fundamental issue. “It’s about two groups, two cultures, two tastes, two mentalities,” he said. The key to resolving this divide lies in involving people outside of institutions, such as students, universities, and the public, in the government process.

**Students Drive Change**

Stojiljkovic believes that the student protests have gained momentum over the past few months. He thinks that the energy among young people will only continue to grow. “Something has to happen in the next month,” he stressed.

**Call for Action**

The sociologist urged for a concrete plan to be implemented within the next 30 days. This would involve attempting to remove Prime Minister Milos Vucevic from power and creating a transitional government with a limited mandate and agenda. By May, Stojiljkovic hopes that some kind of institution or arrangement will be established to oversee the country’s progress.
