**Dozens Arrested in Serbia Corruption Probe**
Thirteen people have been arrested for their role in a major corruption scandal in Serbia. They are accused of causing financial damage to the country’s Goods Reserve Directorate.
Prosecutor Nenad Stefanovic said that the suspects were involved in a fake deal where they exchanged wheat with the Directorate, but kept most of it for themselves. The scheme is believed to have caused damages of over 2 million euros.
The investigation found that two companies were involved in the scam, and that quality certificates and tests on seed were forged to cover up the crime. The suspects are accused of making illegal gains of over 23 million kilograms of wheat.
This is not the first corruption case to be uncovered in Serbia recently. Earlier this week, a senior official from the ruling party was arrested for his role in a corruption scandal involving the national power company.
The Serbian President has launched a campaign against corruption, and Friday’s announcement comes after Thursday’s arrest of several officials.
