Former Lithuanian Minister Speaks Out on Georgia’s Situation
Gabrielius Landsbergis, Lithuania’s former Foreign Affairs Minister, is calling for action against the Georgian government. He says new elections are needed to calm the situation in Georgia.
“I think what we’re seeing this year is a takeover of power,” he said. “The country is being turned into a place where people don’t have civil rights.”
Landsbergis believes that if the West doesn’t take action, it will be a tragedy for Georgia and its people. He thinks sanctions are needed to stop the Georgian government’s actions.
“The ‘Georgian Dream’ government must stop,” he said. “Sanctions must be imposed.”
The former minister praised the courage of the Georgian people. Despite being repressed by the government, they continue to protest every day for over 70 days.
“They’re showing resilience and determination in the face of everything that’s happening,” Landsbergis said.
He emphasized that new elections are needed, but they must be fair. If the government holds new elections and still falsifies them, it won’t solve anything.
