Former Serbian President Boris Tadic is unhappy with the way his successor, Aleksandar Vucic, talks about the elite military unit that provides security for the head of state.
Tadic says Vucic has made the Cobras sound like they are personal bodyguards. This has created a negative image of the unit in the public’s eyes. The Cobras are highly respected professionals who have been keeping the president safe for many years.
Tadic is upset about Vucic’s recent threats to use the Cobras against protesters. Some people even started chanting “Throw us the Cobras so we can play”. Tadic thinks this shows how Vucic’s words have made the public see the Cobras in a negative light.
Tadic believes Vucic has wrongly portrayed the Cobras as being like the secret police unit that was used by former president Slobodan Milosevic. He wants people to know that the Cobras are true professionals who deserve respect, not scorn.
