Hungary’s Deputy Foreign Minister Visits Ukraine, Criticizes Officials

Hungarian Deputy Foreign Minister Levente Magyar visited Kyiv on February 11 and criticized Ukrainian officials for a “slanderous campaign” against Hungary. He claimed that Hungarian authorities have evidence of this campaign, which is allegedly backed by Ukraine.

Magyar met with Ukrainian officials to demand an explanation for the alleged campaign. However, he did not provide any evidence to support his claims. The Hungarian government has previously accused Ukraine of discriminating against its ethnic minority in southwestern Ukraine.

The visit comes amid tensions between Hungary and Ukraine over issues such as territorial disputes and language policies. Hungary has been a key ally of Russia in the European Union, and has blocked aid to Ukraine while also delaying sanctions against Moscow.

Magyar’s comments were made on Facebook, where he said that “the government will protect the country from all attempts at external influence” and that Hungary’s interests are more important than anything else. He also accused Ukraine of restricting the rights of Hungarians living in a border region with Hungary.

The Ukrainian government has denied any wrongdoing and accuses Hungary of spreading misinformation.
