**Energy Infrastructure Under Attack in Baltic Sea**

The European Union and NATO are being urged to strengthen cooperation to protect critical energy infrastructure from attacks. The Kremlin is suspected of weaponizing the Baltic Sea, where several undersea cables have been damaged or severed.

**Costs of Sabotage Minimal**

Despite growing concerns, experts say that the average increase in energy prices for consumers would be minimal: 50 cents per month in Lithuania, 60 cents in Estonia, and around one euro in Latvia. In return, the Baltic states gain energy independence from Russia and market coupling with Europe, promoting price decreases.

**Enhanced Security Measures**

Energy system operators in Poland and the Baltic states are implementing urgent measures to enhance security of critical energy infrastructure. Lithuania has expedited strengthening protection of its LitPol Link cable, while Polish Transmission System Operator (PSE) ensures continuous monitoring and physical security upgrades.

**NATO Must Act**

The increasing frequency of attacks highlights the difficulty of attributing blame in a complex world. However, with Russia’s aggression against Ukraine underway, it’s time for the West to take initiative and stop retreating. The EU and NATO must develop new tools and strategies to protect collective security – especially in the Baltic Sea.
