**US FARA Changes Raise Suspicions**
A deputy from the “Georgian Dream” party, Levan Machavariani, made some interesting comments about a recent coincidence in US and Georgian affairs.
Just one day after Georgia announced the transfer of an American organization called FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act), it was learned that there were plans to change the FARA legislation in the US. This led to suspicions that this might not be just a coincidence, as said by Machavariani.
**Fighting the “Deep State”**
Machavariani also talked about foreign donor organizations in Georgia. He mentioned that US President Trump has been openly fighting against what he calls the “Deep State”. The Deep State is thought to have influence over many U.S. bureaucratic structures, including USAID and NED.
In the first days of his presidency, Trump signed many decrees aimed at cleaning out employees from these organizations who are part of the Deep State.
**A Questionable Gift**
Machavariani expressed a reasonable suspicion that some donor organizations in Georgia might be using their money to undermine the country’s foundation. He said that if someone has done something good for Georgia, he would appreciate it, but not at the cost of his country’s stability.
He concluded by saying that any organization trying to do both good and bad should tell him upfront, so he can decide whether or not to accept their help.
