**Georgia’s Opposition Leader Calls for Stronger Sanctions**
The leader of Georgia’s opposition party, Tina Bokuchava, says that continuing and deepening the country’s sanctions policy against its current government is crucial.
Bokuchava believes that international pressure will eventually isolate the regime led by Bidzina Ivanishvili. She thinks this will lead to Ivanishvili stepping down, allowing for new elections to be held in Georgia.
**Strong Sanctions Mean Stronger Pressure**
According to Bokuchava, strong sanctions against Ivanishvili’s government are necessary because they isolate him and his allies on the international stage. This means that they cannot withstand the pressure for long and will eventually have to give up power.
**No Meeting with a Key Opposition Figure**
Bokuchava also spoke about a potential meeting between Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Mzia Amaghlobeli, a key opposition figure who is on hunger strike. Bokuchava said that it would be wrong for the government to try to negotiate with someone like Amaghlobeli, who is fighting against Ivanishvili’s regime.
**Justice Must Be Served**
Bokuchava emphasized that what society really wants is for each person responsible for crimes committed during this time to be punished. This should include trials in international courts, such as the Hague International Criminal Court and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
