Musicians Speak Out in Court
Musician Nino Katamadze spoke out at the Kutaisi City Court before a trial involving journalists and professionals. She said that free speech should not stop, even if it’s heard inside a courtroom.
Katamadze mentioned the sense of injustice and the hunger strike by Temur Katamadze (no relation). Many events have made her wonder how to stop speaking out.
A trial is taking place at the Kutaisi City Court. Judge Tsitsino Mosidze will lead the case against nine individuals, including journalists and professionals. They are being charged under Article 174-prim, part 3 of the Administrative Offenses Code.
The charges stem from a protest outside the judge’s house on January 26. The protesters were opposing the imprisonment of Mzia Amaghlobeli and an appellate court decision.
Nine people have been issued tickets: Gela Mtivlishvili (journalist), Nino Katamadze (musician), Vladimir Apkhazava (teacher), Khvicha Vashakhmadze (journalist), Ketevan Filauri (psychologist), Maia Tsiramua (psychologist), Irina Zarandia (civil activist), Givi Tsintzadze (city council member), and Eka Kuchalashvili (journalist).
