**Billions of Dollars in Waste Expected to be Found at US Defense Department**
US President Donald Trump says that billionaire Elon Musk will likely find billions of dollars in wasteful and fraudulent spending at the US Defense Department.
Musk is the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a group set up by Trump to cut waste from the federal budget. So far, DOGE has carried out mass layoffs and big cuts to humanitarian aid.
Trump praised Musk’s work as “terrific” in an interview with Fox News. He said that Musk should check the US military next and that he would soon be going into the Department of Education.
“We’re going to find billions, hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud and abuse,” Trump said. “The people elected me on that.”
This comes as Trump and Musk try to shut down the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which gives aid to countries all around the world. USAID helps with things like rebuilding Ukraine after a war with Russia.
Trump’s administration has frozen all foreign aid for 90 days and plans to lay off most of the staff at USAID. Trump and Musk have said that there is widespread fraud at the agency, but they haven’t given any evidence.
The White House has also been firing government officials and replacing them with people who are loyal to Trump. This could threaten US military support for Ukraine, which is already in a tough spot because of a lack of weapons from the US.
Musk’s plans to cut funding at the Pentagon could make things even worse for Ukraine. The country is running out of US-made weapons, and neither Trump nor Congress has approved new shipments to Kyiv.
