**Georgian Ruling Party Announces Restrictive Laws**

The Georgian Dream (GD) party has announced plans to pass restrictive laws over the next two months. The laws will affect areas such as drugs, juvenile justice, and media.

**Tighter Drug Policy**

The state will be “extremely strict” with drug dealers, while encouraging consumers to reject drugs. There will not be the same attitude towards marijuana and heroin users.

**Stricter Juvenile Justice**

Juvenile justice will also become stricter, but with the protection of rights in mind.

**NGOs and Media Restrictions**

The ruling party plans to remove laws that require NGOs to participate in public decision-making processes. The appointment of heads of public entities will be made at the discretion of ministers.

**Restrictions on Foreign Funding**

Receiving benefits from foreign sources will be restricted, and civil servants will not be allowed to receive benefits without consent from their head.

**New Media Law**

A new media law is planned, based on the British model. It will define media objectivity and journalistic ethics. Funding from foreign sources will be limited, except for commercial advertising.

**FARA Replacement**

The American-style FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act) will replace Georgia’s existing Foreign Agents Law. This will ensure full implementation of the law.

**Foundation for Civic Initiatives**

A foundation will be created to finance civic initiatives, supporting organizations that promote Georgian people’s interests.

**Tighter Migration Legislation**

Migration legislation will also become stricter.

These laws are expected to be passed and enacted within the next two or three months. Consultation with experts will take place before adoption.
