USAID Funding Was Misused, Says Georgian Prime Minister
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze accused the US government of misusing USAID funding in his country. He made these claims during a press conference in Kazakhstan.
According to the Prime Minister, USAID funds were not used for charitable purposes. Instead, they were used to organize revolutions and cause unrest in Georgia and other countries. This is something that the Georgian government has been saying since spring 2023.
The Prime Minister welcomed the US decision to suspend USAID funding for three months. He expressed hope that this suspension would remain in place until further investigation takes place. Kobakhidze also urged USAID not to interfere with Georgia’s internal affairs, including elections and vote tabulation.
