Ukrainian Special Forces Commander Dies in Combat
Anton Spitsyn, a commander of the Omega special forces unit, has died from injuries sustained during a combat mission. His brother, Oleksandr, announced this on Facebook.
Spitsyn was one of the co-founders of the Peaky Blinders unit. They are currently fighting to defend Kharkiv Oblast against Russian forces. Spitsyn had been serving in Ukraine’s National Guard since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Oleksandr described his brother as a hero who lived and died with honor. He was born and raised in Kharkiv Oblast, where he owned a construction business before joining the military. Spitsyn also volunteered to teach English to orphans for free.
The situation on the front lines is getting worse for Ukraine. Russian forces are trying to cross the Oskil River in Kharkiv Oblast to outflank Ukrainian soldiers. They have been attempting this for months and are now close to the town of Kupiansk, which is 2 kilometers from their current position.
The head of the Kupiansk military administration, Andrii Besedin, said the situation is very difficult. Russian forces are trying to secure a bridgehead in the town of Dvorichna on the river’s western bank.
