NATO Chief Warns Putin: “Never Try Again”
Mark Rutte, the head of NATO, has said that he has secret ideas for future peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. He wants to make sure that Russian President Vladimir Putin will never again try to conquer Ukraine.
In an interview with a German newspaper, Rutte was asked if peace between the two countries is possible. He replied that it’s not just about having peace, but also about making sure that Putin can’t conquer any part of Ukraine.
Rutte said that NATO’s main goal right now is to support Ukraine with weapons and training for its soldiers. If Ukraine decides to enter peace talks, it will have to bring Putin to the negotiating table. Rutte didn’t elaborate on his secret ideas, but said that only one thing is certain: Putin will never try again.
The comments come as U.S. President Donald Trump said that his team is discussing ways to end the war in Ukraine with the Russian side. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that any talks about the war without Ukraine’s involvement are “very dangerous”.
Zelensky wants to hold a high-level meeting with Trump first, so that Kyiv and Washington can develop their own plans for a ceasefire. Then they can discuss it with Russia.
Rutte also expressed his views on the direction of the full-scale invasion. He said that while the front is moving in the wrong direction for Ukraine, Russia is paying a heavy price in lives lost or seriously wounded. Rutte believes that NATO’s job is to ensure that Russia never achieves its goals and that Ukraine will come out stronger.
The situation remains complex, with no clear solution in sight.
