**Russia’s Ryazan Oil Refinery in Flames After Reported Drone Strike**
A fire broke out at Russia’s Ryazan Oil Refinery on January 26, after a drone strike was reported. This is the second attack on the refinery in just two nights.
According to Russian media reports, locals heard explosions and an attempted drone attack on the refinery shortly before 1am on January 26. The Ryazan Oblast Governor confirmed that Russian air defense units were repelling a drone attack in the region.
**Previous Attacks**
The refinery was attacked by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and Special Operations Forces (SOS) on January 24. Locals reported hearing explosions and seeing fires at the refinery after the attack. The SBU also carried out a drone attack on the refinery on May 1, 2024.
**Important Facility**
Ukraine’s counter-disinformation chief, Andrii Kovalenko, said that the Ryazan Oil Refinery is a key facility in Russia’s military-industrial complex. He said that the refinery produces fuel for military equipment, aviation kerosene, and other types of petroleum products used by the Russian Armed Forces.
**Capacity and Location**
The Ryazan Oil Refinery has the capacity to process 17 million metric tons of oil per year. It is located roughly 500 kilometers north of Ukraine’s border.
