**EU to Give Ukraine $36 Billion in Financial Help**
The European Union will give Ukraine 35 billion euros, or about $36 billion, in financial assistance this year. This was announced by the EU’s vice-president and trade commissioner on January 22.
This help comes from two programs: the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) credit initiative and the Ukraine Facility program. These programs are designed to support Ukraine with loans and financial aid.
**Previous Help**
Last month, Ukraine received its first batch of money from the EU – 3 billion euros, or about $3.09 billion. This was made possible by selling assets that were once owned by Russia but have been frozen since the start of the conflict.
The ERA initiative is a big loan program set up by the G7 countries to help Ukraine with almost $50 billion in loans. The EU will contribute around $20 billion, while the U.S. Treasury Department has also promised to give Ukraine $20 billion as part of this program.
**Ukraine Facility**
In addition to these loans, there is another important financial assistance program for Ukraine – the Ukraine Facility. This was set up by the European Union in February 2024 and will run until 2027. The EU has agreed to allocate 4.1 billion euros, or about $4.3 billion, under this program to help Ukraine recover from the conflict.
