**Students Call for Solidarity Strike**
Protesting students at Belgrade University have sent a letter to Serbian education unions, the Post Office union, and the power company EPS. They are asking these unions to support their cause with a solidarity strike.
The students want to “radicalize societal actions” to achieve their demands. They said that they have been trying for weeks to make sure everything runs properly in Serbia, but institutions here think their demands are too extreme.
“We are grateful for your support,” the letter said. “It shows that there is a connection between academics and workers.” The students want those in power to understand that they can no longer control citizens without being fair.
The students have decided to stop their education because it was at risk of becoming meaningless. They invited the unions to join them by going on strike. This, they said, would show that people are not safe in Serbia and that ignoring experts’ opinions puts lives at risk.
The letter concluded by saying that the state cannot function without students and workers, and that it is their responsibility to restore its dignity.
