Georgian Opposition’s Visit to Washington Raises Questions
Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Committee on European Integration in Georgia, has spoken out about the opposition’s visit to Washington for Donald Trump’s inauguration. According to him, the opposition’s purpose was “to stage a show and create an impression that they represent something.”
Makhashvili believes that the Georgian opposition does not truly represent the country. If they did, their focus should be on discussing issues related to Georgia in the parliament hall.
The Chair of the Committee noted that Donald Trump’s views are opposite to those held by the Georgian opposition. However, Makhashvili thinks that the opposition has changed its stance for political gain.
A Connection Between Trump and Georgian Dream
Makhashvili highlighted areas where Trump’s views align with those of the ruling party in Georgia, Georgian Dream. These include:
* The dismantling of informal influences in government
* Protecting family values and minors from harmful influences
* Prioritizing national interests in foreign policy
Makhashvili sees this alignment as a positive development for U.S.-Georgia relations.
