Nominations for Media Watchdog Passed to Parliament

The Cenzolovka portal reported that the nominations for Serbia’s electronic media watchdog have been sent to parliament. The names of the candidates will now be processed by lawmakers.

Several groups, including journalist organizations and government agencies, submitted nominations for the Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM). These groups included the Gender Equality Commissioner, Public Information Commissioner, and Ombudsman.

The candidates include some journalists who support the current government. There is also a candidate from a magazine run by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party. Some former members of REM’s council have also been nominated. However, nominations made by an independent journalist association were not accepted.
