**Georgia’s Government Under Fire**

Demonstrators in Georgia are protesting the government’s pro-Russian stance. The government has responded with arrests and other measures against activists, journalists, and protesters.

Many people who have been detained report being beaten and mistreated by police officers. One activist, Saba Buadze, was attacked while trying to film a protest in Tbilisi. He said that “provocateurs” approached him and his team members, swearing and throwing stones.

The government claims it is investigating incidents of violence against protesters and journalists, but no one has been held accountable yet. Human Rights Watch says Georgia’s human rights situation has worsened over the past year.

President Salome Zurabishvili recently visited Washington D.C. to meet with U.S. officials. She said that the current government in Georgia “cannot legitimately represent the Georgian people.”
