**Serbia’s Human Rights Record in 2024**
Serbia had a tough year for human rights in 2024. Attacks on journalists, slow justice for war crimes, and violence against the LGBT community were major concerns.
**Journalists Under Attack**
Independent journalists faced threats, intimidation, and physical attacks. In July and August, protests against lithium mining led to arrests of activists and smear campaigns by state media. Between January and September, there were 108 incidents against journalists, including 8 physical attacks and 55 threats.
**War Crimes Justice Delayed**
Prosecutions for war crimes moved slowly in 2024. Only seven new investigations were launched, with three against unknown perpetrators. The asylum system was also flawed, making it hard for people to get the help they needed.
**LGBT Community Still at Risk**
The LGBT community faced intolerance and violence throughout the year. Between January and September, there were 82 incidents of hate-motivated attacks, including 28 physical attacks. However, the Belgrade Pride march took place without incident in September.
