**Renowned Director Speaks Out in Support of Student Protests**
A well-known film and television director, Radivoje Andric, has spoken out in support of the student protests currently taking place in Serbia. In an interview with Radar magazine, Andric expressed his admiration for the students’ approach to protesting.
“They are doing it much more intelligently than my generation did during the 1992 and 1996-1997 student protests,” he said. “They immediately rejected all political parties – something we attempted but failed to achieve.”
Andric believes that the current regime is mishandling almost everything, from environmental issues to institutions and healthcare. He argues that the government has become a parallel system controlled by one person and their party.
“We are accused of being against the state, when in fact we deeply support this country – that’s precisely why we oppose the current regime,” Andric said.
The protests are not the first challenge to the regime, but Andric believes that they are now being rocked more seriously. He compared the situation to Los Angeles, where there are many hotspots of protest, and the government lacks the resources and time to address them all.
Andric’s comments were inspired by a turning point for him – the May 3, 2023 Vladislav Ribnikar school massacre in Belgrade, which was a tragic event where a child killed other children. However, he has now found renewed hope at home.
“My concern isn’t about the change of regime, but what follows,” Andric said. “We need to transform not just the leadership but also how the country functions.”
Andric expressed his support for the students and their leaders, saying that they are like firefighters trying to put out a fire caused by the government’s mismanagement.
