**Russian Drones Strike Sumy Oblast, Injuring Two**
On January 12, Russian drones attacked civilian infrastructure in the Ukrainian region of Sumy Oblast. The attacks caused a large fire at a children’s health and wellness center in the regional capital Sumy.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported as a result of the attack on the children’s center. However, two people were injured when a drone struck a civilian bus in the village of Myropillia earlier in the day. The two women, aged 30 and 42, are receiving medical attention.
**Daily Attacks**
Shelling is a daily occurrence for communities near Ukraine’s northeastern border with Russia. Russian forces have been launching multiple attacks per day on vulnerable border settlements in Sumy Oblast.
In total, Russia struck 13 communities across Sumy Oblast in 68 different attacks on the region. The attacks have become increasingly destructive over the past year, fueling fears of a potential new attack on the region in the coming months.
**Other Developments**
In other news, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius denied reports that Chancellor Olaf Scholz blocked a proposal for an additional military aid package for Ukraine worth 3 billion euros.
Meanwhile, Sweden will increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea through the deployment of three warships and a radar reconnaissance aircraft in response to suspected sabotage of several underwater cables.
**Ukraine and Russia Negotiations**
There were also reports of potential negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that his country is willing to hand over its people to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un if it can secure the release of Ukrainian soldiers held captive in Russia.
