University Professors Support Student Protests

Over 3,500 university professors in Serbia have signed a public letter backing student protests and their demands. This was the number of signatories on Tuesday evening.

The letter is from professors, teachers, and researchers across Serbia. They are supporting the students’ fight for a better society. The letter says:

“We stand firmly alongside our students in our shared fight for a better society.”

Professors Criticize Authorities

The professors strongly disagree with how the authorities have handled the protests. They condemn the release of private information about students, spreading false news, and police and BIA agents going to students’ homes.

“We urge the relevant authorities to do their jobs responsibly,” says the letter.

Reason for Protests

The protests started after a tragedy in Novi Sad on November 1. Fifteen people died when a concrete awning collapsed at the city’s train station. The station had been renovated recently. Students are demanding answers about what happened.
