**Ukraine Strikes Russian Railways with Cyberattack**
On January 4, Ukrainian cyber experts hit a key Russian contractor called RegionTransService. This attack coincided with the birthday of Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine’s intelligence chief.
RegionTransService is important to Russia’s railway system. They manage freight cars from when they are made until they are thrown away. Because they help transport military cargo, this company was a big target in the ongoing war.
The cyberattack destroyed 78 servers and 211 computers, including their backup systems. This was confirmed by sources within Ukraine’s intelligence agency.
**Revenge for Russia’s Cyberattacks**
This attack came after a similar one against Russia’s oil sector on December 30-31. Both RegionTransService and Lukoil help Russian military operations. Ukrainian cyber units have been attacking Russian targets since February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine.
Ukraine has been responding to Russia’s cyberattacks by targeting their military logistics. This helps disrupt Russian plans and gather important information.
