It is very important for Romania to see Georgia on the European path, on the path to joining the European Union, although we are still very concerned about the developments there in terms of democracy, – the Romanian Foreign Minister told journalists in Luxembourg.
“Romania is a country that has seen moments, both recently and throughout our history, when citizens took to the streets to protest and defend our democracy, our path to fight corruption and our path to Europe. It is very important for us to protect this instrument of freedom of assembly and freedom of speech and the possibility of holding free elections. Elections where opposition parties and party leaders are not intimidated by the law, as we see in the case of Georgia,” the Romanian Foreign Minister noted.
According to her, Romania will continue to have good relations with Georgia.
“We will continue the good relationship we have with Georgia in terms of dialogue, but these problems are very important to us and must be resolved so that the country can return to the path of the European Union, if this is the will of the citizens,” said Oana Toiu.
