Bidzina Ivanishvili has altered constitutional principles, changed the country’s course, and is establishing an authoritarian, dictatorial regime, stated Irakli Pavlenishvili, Deputy Secretary General of the United National Movement, to journalists.
According to him, a large number of people have been detained not only in connection with the events of October 4 but also over recent years on political grounds.
“In terms of political prisoners per capita, we have surpassed the most authoritarian regimes. Ivanishvili is to blame for this, as he has changed the country’s constitutional principles and course, establishing an authoritarian, dictatorial regime, which is accompanied by political persecution and repressions. The people fighting against him are not the cause of these repressions. It is Ivanishvili’s fault that the country has entered this deadlock. His declared goal is to neutralize, force into emigration, or imprison hundreds of thousands of Georgian citizens, which is causing this situation,” stated Irakli Pavlenishvili.
Additionally, he commented on the restrictions imposed on those detained in connection with the October 4 case – Paata Burchuladze, Murtaz Zodelava, Irakli Nadiradze, Paata Manjgaladze, and Lasha Beridze – prohibiting them from making phone calls, having visits, or receiving letters in prison.
According to Pavlenishvili’s assessment, Ivanishvili’s regime not only persecutes these individuals but also deprives them of their rights as prisoners.
“This is yet another clear demonstration that Ivanishvili’s regime not only detains its political opponents but also deprives them of their rights as prisoners. We saw this with Levan Khabeishvili, and now we see it with other political prisoners as well. Essentially, this group of five has been stripped of all their rights as prisoners, which is a classic manifestation of political persecution,” stated Pavlenishvili.
He clarified that the United National Movement supported and will continue to support any actions directed against Bidzina Ivanishvili.
