Georgian Justice Minister Paata Salia says the investigation should determine whether the death of former director of Gldani Penitentiary Davit Gogoberishvili could be linked to the case of former head of the Co-Investment Fund, Giorgi Bachiashvili.
Specifically, to a question from a Formula journalist, “Do you think the story of Giorgi Bachiashvili could be linked to the story of suicide?” Salia replied:
“I can’t tell you now. I think it would be speculation to link it like that. The investigation should determine whether this was related to the specific episode when, let’s say, a confrontation occurred between prisoners. Later, within the framework of our investigation and disciplinary proceedings, several individuals left the system with their applications.”
According to Paata Salia, the fact was horrifying and unimaginable, because there were no prerequisites.
“First of all, I am very sorry for what happened. It was a truly horrific fact. It was unimaginable to me, because there were no preconditions for this.”
The former director of the Gldani Penitentiary Institution, Davit Gogoberishvili, was found dead on October 8. According to reports, Gogoberishvili was found dead in a garage, he had been shot.
For information, Davit Gogoberishvili and his deputy left their positions several months ago, which was linked to the confrontation that occurred in the cell of the former head of the Co-Investment Fund, convicted Giorgi Bachiashvili.
