If a case is assigned to a judge who resists, they start working on them gradually. First, they try persuasion – ‘handle this case for us, and we’ll promote you,’ then threats begin, then they offer money, and finally, they tell them to step aside from the case, saying they’ll reassign it to someone else who will handle it, stated lawyer Kakha Tsikarishvili during a discussion on the situation in the judicial system and the statements made by former Supreme Court judge Beso Alavidze on the PalitraNews program “Resume.”
According to Kakha Tsikarishvili, the statements made by Beso Alavidze regarding the judicial authorities are unprecedented because they cover a vast amount of facts and information.
“Beso Alavidze’s interview is remarkable because it is very detailed. It covers a lot of facts and information and is unprecedented in this regard. We have never had such a detailed interview from any judge. He names numerous cases and reveals the entire methodology of how the clan operates. First, they try to select a judge who is favorable to them. If a case is assigned to a judge who resists, they start working on them gradually. First, persuasion begins – ‘handle this case for us, and we’ll promote you,’ then threats start, then they offer money, and finally, they tell them to step aside from the case, saying they’ll reassign it to someone else who will handle it. They use the entire spectrum of methods,” stated Kakha Tsikarishvili.
According to Kakha Tsikarishvili, the “clan” within the judicial system uses judges’ assistants to obtain information and communicate with judges.
“We know that assistants work closely with judges. They obtain information from assistants and use them to communicate with others. For example, he [Beso Alavidze] said that Chinchaladze sent his assistant to me, and then they tried to find out what was happening in our panel through my assistants. When several judges are working on a case, if one of them is trusted by the chairperson, that person passes on information about what decision is being prepared. If the decision is unacceptable, they start working to change it,” stated Kakha Tsikarishvili.
