We are aware of statements regarding provocations—we will maintain close coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure no unlawful actions take place, stated Giorgi Kalandarishvili, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), during a briefing.
He further noted that, to ensure the elections are conducted in a safe and peaceful environment, the CEC signed a memorandum with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“Unfortunately, we also hear such statements [regarding provocations], but as you know, the legislation defines regulations both inside and outside polling stations, as well as the scope of competencies among agencies. In this regard, a few weeks ago, we signed a memorandum with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure the elections are conducted in a safe and peaceful environment. We will maintain close coordination and cooperation to ensure no unlawful actions take place—at the very least, to prevent them, or in case such actions occur, to implement measures provided by law to ensure that the peaceful and safe conduct of the elections is not jeopardized,” Kalandarishvili stated.
