“We are coming peacefully, we will not break the law, but we also warn you: do not break the law either, and act within the framework of the law!” – with these words Paata Burchuladze, founder of the movement Rustaveli Avenue, addressed Georgian Dream.
At a briefing, Burchuladze spoke about the statement submitted to City Hall regarding the protest rally scheduled for October 4. The response letter was recently made public by Tbilisi City Hall.
According to Burchuladze, although they were not obliged, they still officially notified City Hall.
“As you know, on October 4, for the first time in Georgia’s history, a National Assembly will be held. As stated in the Constitution and in the law, we applied to City Hall and notified them. We were not required to request permission. We informed them that the people of Georgia will hold a National Assembly, and we want four stages to be set up – at Freedom Square, by Parliament, at the Opera, and at Republic Square. We acted legally, but today we received a response – ‘don’t gather too many people and set up only one stage.’
Gentlemen, this is a most important assembly that we are holding. To those who wrote this response I say: don’t be afraid, we are coming peacefully, we will not break the law. We are a peace-loving people who want our country to be free. Therefore, there will be no violation of the Constitution – this is guaranteed to us by the Constitution itself. We will not break the law, but we also warn you: do not break the law either, and act within the framework of the law!” – Burchuladze addressed the ruling party.
