Instead of Mr. Peter strengthening and expanding the bridge built by many Germans, many Georgians over the past 30 years, and I myself was a participant in this, he burned all the bridges with the Georgian government, personally. This is a very sad situation. I am most sorry about this, – said the Chairman of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, answering a question posed by journalists, which concerned the criticism made by the Georgian Dream towards the German Ambassador to Georgia, Piret Fischer – what expectations they have regarding future relations with him.
As Papuashvili noted, he has no expectations towards the German Ambassador.
“I have no expectations for Mr. Peter. I know that his term in Georgia is until June of next year. By the way, his term was expiring, now, in the summer, and it was extended for one year. I have no expectations for anything positive. They themselves know very well when we talk that Georgia is small, everyone knows everyone, and the German-speaking community is not big either, we know his personal attitude – he has a personal attitude towards the Georgian Dream and its voters. So we cannot change that. If the German government wants him to represent Germany, of course, this is their will and he is their ambassador, although I also said that I find it difficult to imagine that under the conditions of this ambassador, we will somehow be able to find a common language. In fact, he attacks everyone, the government, parliament, journalists, voters of the Georgian Dream. It is clear that he is the German ambassador and will have its [German government’s] support. The ambassador’s task is to be a bridge between the governments. Instead of Mr. Peter strengthening and expanding the bridge built by many Germans, many Georgians over the past 30 years, and I myself was a participant in this, he burned all the bridges with the Georgian government, personally. So this is a very sad situation. I am very sorry about this. I know, and the entire society, what the relations are between Germany and Georgia. Since the 90s, Germany was the first country to open an embassy in Georgia, and many Georgians, including me, were involved in ensuring that the name of Germany was always respected in Georgian society. It is sad that Mr. Peter, with his attitude and I do not know why he has this attitude, is burning these bridges,” Papuashvili said.
