They can dream of Kupradze as mayor, but when they wake up, Kaladze will be the elected mayor—they are living in fantasies, said Guram Macharashvili, a deputy from the “People’s Power” party, commenting on statements by “Lelo – Strong Georgia” leaders Aleko Elisashvili and Irakli Kupradze.
According to him, as elections approach, both the revolutionary “Nats” (National Movement) and the “Nats” participating in elections are in increasing agony.
“They are making statements worse than one another. What Elisashvili said, and then Kupradze added to, goes beyond even fantasies. In other words, they are telling the public, including people working in municipalities, ‘elect me as mayor, and I’ll give you the opportunity to strike.’ Instead of promising the public that if Kaladze, say, builds one park, I’ll build two, and so on, they say, ‘we’ll stop everything.’ These people are saying, ‘not only will we not do infrastructure projects better, but we’ll stop what’s already there.’ Elisashvili even let slip that we might wake up with Kupradze as mayor. Well, they are living in fantasies. The only thing is, they can dream of Kupradze as mayor, but when they wake up, Kaladze will be there as the elected mayor,” Macharashvili stated.
For reference, Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of “Lelo – Strong Georgia,” stated on “TV Pirveli”: “If we wake up in a Tbilisi where Kupradze is mayor and the opposition has a majority in the city council, these people will be left with nothing but a ‘bayram-duduk’ [a reference to being defeated]. The next day, Kupradze will come out and say, ‘Go ahead, organize strikes, fight.’ Imagine municipal services going on strike.”
