Gakharia and political corruption are very close concepts – in such a situation, I would not be surprised by other types of corruption, although we should wait for the investigation, – the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze said when answering a question about the property of former Prime Minister, leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party, Giorgi Gakharia.
According to him, Giorgi Gakharia is carrying out external orders.
“In general, Gakharia and corruption are very close concepts. First of all, I mean political corruption. This person does not serve the interests of the Georgian people, but carries out external orders. This is nothing but political corruption. In such a situation, I would not be surprised by other types of corruption, although I will say once again, we should wait for the investigation. I have no authority to make political comments on such issues,” – said Kobakhidze.
When asked whether he expects corruption to be revealed in the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Prime Minister replied that “only the investigation can have suspicions.”
“As for arrests, this is not the prerogative of the Georgian government, this is the prerogative of law enforcement agencies. If you have any questions regarding specific criminal offenses, you can contact the relevant agency. I cannot have any suspicions about anyone. Only the investigation can have suspicions, and you should contact it on all issues,” Kobakhidze noted.
In addition, the Prime Minister stated that the government is principled against corruption crimes.
“The opposition is looking at our fight against corruption tragically. They are constantly making statements as if this is a sham fight. At this time, you are seeing the facts. The fact is that all government acts are absolutely transparent. We call on everyone to look at the acts issued during this year and if they have any questions, we are ready to answer any questions. There are no questions at all, the government works not only transparently, but also cleanly. The practice of direct privatization has been completely abolished, procurements are absolutely transparent, etc. Everyone can look at everything. In a year and a half, we have proven that we are ready to work not only transparently, but also completely cleanly,” Kobakhidze said.
