Today I met with the new ambassador of France – based on his attitude, I am sure that it will be possible to return the relations between our countries to the point that we want them to be – we, a country of 3.8 million people, cannot spoil anything in such relations, – the Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, told journalists.
According to him, the Georgian side is fully ready for open relations with France, which will be based on mutual respect.
“France has a new ambassador to Georgia, whom I met today. We had a very productive conversation. We talked about all the issues that were important to us. Based on his attitude, I am sure that it will be possible for the relations between our countries to return to the point that we want them to be. We, Georgia, a country of 3.8 million people, cannot spoil anything in such relations, relations cannot be spoiled from our side. It is in the interest of any small country, especially ours, to have good relations with everyone and not to escalate with any country. Especially when we are talking about France. On our side, there is full readiness for open relations, which will be based on mutual respect. Our only prerequisite is mutual respect, respect for each other’s sovereignty. I think the new ambassador of France is very committed in this regard. On our side, of course, he will have every support to return relations to the point where we want to see them,” Papuashvili said.
