The Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia has issued a statement. As stated, no instances of sanctioned vessels entering any of Georgia’s ports have been recorded.
According to the statement, entry into all Georgian ports is strictly controlled in compliance with international law and national legislation.
“The Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, as the state authority for ports, declares that no instances of sanctioned vessels entering any of Georgia’s ports have been recorded.
In 2025, on two occasions (in January and July), vessels flying the Russian flag entered the Batumi seaport with transit cargo of gasoline, with Armenia indicated as the final destination country.
Both vessels were later included, on September 19, 2025, in the sanctions list of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. At the time of their entry into Georgian ports and departure from Georgian waters, these vessels were not subject to sanctions.
The Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia reaffirms that entry into all Georgian ports is controlled in strict compliance with international law and national legislation. The Agency continues to ensure compliance with international maritime safety, security, and environmental protection standards, as well as the sanctions regimes in effect at the time of a vessel’s entry. Georgia’s ports are not used, including by third countries, to evade sanctions.
It should be noted that any vessel planning to enter Georgian ports is coordinated with the competent state authorities before entering Georgia’s territorial waters. These measures aim to restrict the movement of sanctioned vessels in Georgian ports,” the statement reads.
