“Today our state is independent and sovereign as never before, and this reality gives us the opportunity to enforce the law as strictly as possible in relation to any type of crime,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
According to Kobakhidze, specific cases have been initiated by law enforcement agencies, and this is entirely a matter of the law; it does not concern the government as such, but rather the relevant institutions.
“Our government is taking active measures to eradicate corruption in Georgia. This is linked to the activity of the Prosecutor’s Office, the State Security Service, and other law enforcement agencies. The fight against crime has intensified in all major directions — this concerns corruption-related crimes, drug crimes, organized crime, and politically motivated crimes. In every direction, the fight against crime has become more active,” Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the challenges facing the government and the country, noting that these challenges were artificially created from the outside.
“For example, when you have difficult political processes in the country and around the country, when there is an ongoing war in the region, when in this context there is pressure on the government to get involved in hostilities, and so on — under such circumstances, some things may not receive the proper attention for objective reasons. Today, however, our state is independent and sovereign as never before, and this reality gives us the opportunity to enforce the law as strictly as possible in relation to any type of crime,” Kobakhidze said.
