One of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change,” Elene Khoshtaria, refused a state-appointed lawyer and did not meet with the rights defender who came to the isolator. This was stated by lawyer Irakli Benia to the media.
As the rights defender explains, the politician’s court hearing is scheduled for 3:30 PM, and he is obligated to appear at the session.
“The case was assigned to me today, about half an hour ago. Of course, I decided to meet with the detainee, came to the temporary detention isolator, but Ms. Elene refused the lawyer appointed by the state. That’s all I can tell you. The case materials were handed over to me, but I have had no other communication with her. The hearing is scheduled for 3:30 PM, and I am obligated to appear,” the lawyer stated.
For reference, law enforcement detained Elene Khoshtaria on September 15 of this year. She was charged under Part 1 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (damaging someone else’s property, causing significant damage), which provides for imprisonment from one to five years. On September 14, Khoshtaria wrote “Russian Dream” on a banner at Kaha Kaladze’s election headquarters. She shared the corresponding video on social media herself and stated that this was her way of expressing solidarity with Megi Diasamidze, who was detained a few days earlier for damaging Kaha Kaladze’s election banner.
