Georgian Dream is tightening the Law on Combating Corruption. Amendments are planned to be made to the aforementioned law, according to which public officials, political officials, persons employed in state enterprises will be obliged to submit a declaration of their assets to the Anti-Corruption Bureau every year for 30 years if they are convicted of committing official or financial crimes.
“Since the Georgian Dream came to power, one of the main priorities of our political team has been the fight against corruption. In this direction, we have achieved significant results over the past 13 years, which is confirmed by international surveys conducted throughout this time, especially in recent times. Georgia is a leader in the fight against corruption and anti-corruption reforms in the region and is ahead of a number of European countries. Despite these tangible results, we are not going to be satisfied with what has been achieved and remain committed to the ambitious, declared goal, according to which Georgia should enter the top three countries in the world in terms of low corruption.
That is why the Parliament of Georgia fully shares and supports the declared course of the Prime Minister of Georgia, which is related to the uncompromising fight against corruption. Naturally, the role of the State Security Service is special in this process, one of the main priorities of which is the prevention, detection and suppression of official misconduct, conflicts of interest in public service, and corruption, including “elite corruption”.
The effective measures taken by the State Security Service in the fight against corruption and the crimes revealed in recent times are yet another proof that the state is uncompromising and irreconcilable towards this type of crime!
In order to create more effective mechanisms for combating corruption at the legislative level in the future, a new legislative initiative has been prepared in the Parliament of Georgia, according to which amendments will be made to the Law on Combating Corruption.
According to the amendments, public officials, political officials, persons employed in state enterprises will be obliged to submit a declaration of their assets to the Anti-Corruption Bureau every year for 30 years if they are convicted of committing official or financial crimes.
After the amendments come into force, it will be possible to actively observe and monitor the property status of people convicted of specific official crimes for 30 years, which, according to him, will exclude the legalization of misappropriated property and its use for personal interests even after serving the sentence”, said the MP.
