If there were past corruption-related misconduct, we need to respond to it in order to achieve a preventive effect – therefore, we will be as effective and strict as possible! – Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze made this statement in response to a question regarding the arrest of former Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze.
As Kobakhidze noted in this context, if there are no examples of punishment, there remains temptation.
“We are actively working in all directions. The main thing for us is to maximize the cost-effectiveness of ongoing projects, to ensure the cost-effectiveness of the management system. At the same time, we are interested in what happened in the past. If there were violations in terms of corruption in the past, this needs to be responded to first of all in order to achieve a preventive effect. If there are no examples of this, naturally, the temptation of misconduct remains. Of course, corruption is very harmful to our country. It is harmful to any state, and we must do everything to take care of the elimination of corruption as much as possible.
We will be both effective and strict in all directions. This is the only and unconditional way to eliminate corruption in our country,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
