I am the legitimate president in the eyes of the Georgian people, – the fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, stated in an interview with NPR.
When asked when the anti-democratic change of course by the Georgian Dream took place, Salome Zurabishvili replied that “it is characterized by different stages.”
“The question is always: is this something that we did not notice earlier and could we have stopped it from the beginning? I would say that the real change occurred in 2022. It happened with the war in Ukraine and with the support of Russia. It happened when our Western partners and sanctions were not supported. It happened with the tough speeches of the leader of the Georgian Dream, Mr. Ivanishvili, when he accused Western partners of starting a war against Russia through Georgia,” – Salome Zurabishvili stated.
According to her, “in the eyes of people, she is a legitimate president.”
“There are two important reasons for this. The first is that I represent people and their will to continue the pro-Western path that they have followed since gaining independence. The second is that I represent another desire of the Georgian people, which is to unite the opposition,” Salome Zurabishvili noted.
