Mamuka Khazaradze, leader of “Lelo – Strong Georgia,” has left Rustavi No. 12 Penitentiary Institution.
He was greeted at the prison by family members and party representatives.
Earlier today, Mikheil Kavelashvili announced the pardon of “Lelo – Strong Georgia” leaders Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze. According to Kavelashvili, “despite various circumstances, the president made this decision so that no one would have any reason to claim that local self-government elections are being held under conditions of limited competitiveness.”
For reference, “Lelo – Strong Georgia” leaders Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze were arrested on June 23 at the party’s office. Their arrest was carried out based on the decision of Judge Zviad Sharadze, who found both leaders guilty of failing to comply with the temporary parliamentary investigative commission’s request.
They were sentenced to eight months in prison and simultaneously banned from holding certain positions for two years.
